Emergency Support for Freak Accident, Please Help

I’m Cassandra Odom and I’m the director of Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue. As most of you know this rescue is completely volunteer based and relies on donations and grants. At about 10pm on 12/24/24 I was walking one of the rescue dogs on our final night walk of the evening, when I slipped on the wet porch in the rain and landed directly on my ankle, where I heard a loud pop and started screaming in pain. I tried to stand up, but as soon as I put pressure on my ankle it gave out and I fell back to the ground. I had to crawl in the mud to my phone that was in my truck since there is no one else here on the property with me and the animals. I was able to reach a friend Shae to bring me into the ER where I found out I broke my ankle in two different places, which will require a specialist and surgery that involves a plate and screws to stabilize my bones. The healing process will be about 3 months total the PA said and I cannot work while I’m healing. All the work I do for my job and rescue is completely physical. My job requires me to be on my feet and move the full 6-8 hours shifts each day. I’m currently on crutches and cannot put any weight on my leg.

This leaves me out of work and commission for 3 months. I’m embarrassed and devastated asking for emergency help, but there is no way I can support this rescue and myself for the next 3 months, not working, and not being able to advocate for donations as much as I normally can. About half of my paycheck every month goes to supporting the animals in this rescue and now I won’t even be able to buy them their monthly feed in about two weeks when we are out, I’m nervous and scared. I’ve asked multiple rescues and shelters for help with temporarily taking dogs and I’ll take them back if needed, but I’ve been declined from all of them and I can’t euthanize all the dogs in my rescue, I’d rather die, but I need help and I cannot properly care for them by myself right now and if rescues can’t come forward to help then I need someone here every day helping me to walk and feed them including all of the farm animals.

please help, I’m asking enough to support the rescue for animal feed and to have someone come help me for a few hours a day to get them fed and walked. It’s $3000 per month to feed the animals and I’m assuming it will be around $1000 a month if I’m lucky enough to find someone to feed and take care of the animals.

I cannot properly care for these animals without someone here to help me. I don’t have anyone to help. If you can’t donate financially, please offer to foster a dog. We have so many dogs needing foster homes right now that I cannot care for properly with my ankle being broken. I don’t know what else to do at this point. Please share and help, I only have a few more days to figure things out until it starts becoming really difficult. I don’t want these animals to suffer, because of a freak accident walking Ashton, one of the dogs up for adoption.
