Help Mord & Naomi Rebuild After a Devastating Apartment Fire
Our names are Mord and Naomi Dominitz. We were recently married, and after months of hard work, saving, and planning, we finally put our apartment—and our life together—into a place we could truly call home.
On the night after our six-month wedding anniversary, during the second night of Chanukah, our lives changed forever.
We were miraculously woken in the middle of the night by our dog scratching desperately at our bedroom door. When Mord opened it, the apartment was already filled with thick smoke. We were unable to escape through the apartment and became trapped in our bedroom, struggling to breathe, waiting for the fire brigade to rescue us.
Eventually, we were evacuated and rushed to the hospital. Thank G-d, we are both physically unharmed. That alone is a miracle we are deeply grateful for.
But when we returned to the apartment, our hearts broke.
The majority of the belongings we had worked so hard to turn into our first home together were damaged or completely destroyed. Furniture, clothing, personal items, and irreplaceable things filled with meaning were lost. The fire was caused by a portable charger that exploded and ignited our couch, and the damage spread quickly.
Now, in the aftermath, we are trying to process not only the loss of our home, but also the emotional trauma of being trapped in a burning apartment. On top of this, we are facing the possibility of a legal battle with our landlords, who have treated us disgracefully during this already painful time.
We are reaching out with humility and hope, asking for help to:
Rebuild our home and replace essential belongings
Cover unexpected expenses related to the fire
Support ourselves as we recover emotionally and mentally
Prepare for any legal costs we may face
Any contribution—no matter the size—will help us begin again. If you’re unable to donate, sharing our story means more than you know.
