My name is Jennifer, and I’m reaching out for urgent support as my two-year-old daughter, Baby RJOC, and I face a sudden housing crisis in Titusville, FL. I had planned to stay with my mother while I got back on my feet, started school, and arranged daycare for my daughter. Unfortunately, due to a difficult family situation involving my mother’s husband, I’ve been forced to leave with only 24 hours’ notice. This short notice was the result of being sued for unlawful detainment, which led to the sheriff coming out and giving us a notice to leave.
The environment became unsafe and degrading for us. Under the influence of my mother’s husband, my mother was convinced to make me defecate in plastic bags and urinate outside, denying us basic dignity and safety. This experience has been traumatic for both me and Baby RJOC, and it made it impossible for us to stay any longer. We now have nowhere to go, and I’m doing everything I can to keep us safe and together.
This emergency fund will help cover immediate needs like storage for our belongings, transportation, and a hotel while I search for a shelter that can take us. Despite these challenges, I’ve worked hard to build a better future. I’m currently pursuing an Associate of Applied Business Administration and recently made the Dean’s List with a 3.6 GPA. I’m also enrolled in several Coursera tech upskilling certifications to expand my career options. Baby RJOC has been approved for childcare, and the only step left for us to qualify for low-income housing is for me to secure employment and provide income verification. I have support from local partnerships ready to help us transition into a stable home once I have a job.
Finding shelter has been especially difficult. Most shelters we qualify for are full, and the few with space have disqualified us because our situation is considered family violence rather than domestic violence. Your support will help us get through this critical moment and give Baby RJOC and me the chance to rebuild. Every contribution brings us closer to safety and stability. Thank you for reading and for any help you can offer.
