Emergency Services: Please help care for our puppy

Around 10 am Saturday morning, I noticed our baby Banji had not come back inside with our other dogs after their regular 7 am potty time.

I went outside, and I found her underneath our barbecue, shivering and wheezing. I thought she’d gotten chilled from being out there for three hours, so I brought her back inside to my partner, who cuddled and warmed her up. We got Banji to eat a little food and drink some water, and even take a nap. But her spirits were low and she began breathing like she wanted to through up. This didn’t get much better and later in the day noticed a bloated stomach. We looked online and tried calling around to animal hotlines but we were told to try feeding her pumpkin to help pass her constipation. So, we fed Banji half a can of pumpkin mixed with water…but nothing happened. And we have learned she is so good at hiding her discomfort.

Sunday morning Banji’s breathing was so bad we rushed her to the only Animal Hospital that would see us on Sunday. I waited in an emergency isolation room with her for 3-hours before getting any help. The doctors wouldn’t listen and after numerous tests we learned that our baby Banji has aspiration pneumonia from eating her food to fast, AND she had eaten some sort of linear object, like string or plastic tubing from a planter :(. Banji’s oxygen capacity went down to 40%, she was on fluid IVs, antibiotics and supplemental Oxygen for almost two days. The doctors even asked us if we had thought about euthanization… at first our medical bills were estimated to exceed $9000 but we have been working with the vet to sort it out.

We got our happy loving baby back today and are keeping her hydrated and medicated, but right now our bill is over $3,200. We need help with this bill to make sure we have the funds for her ongoing care, medication and support needs. Please help our family… thank you
