We are STH Students in Action - a group of Boston University Theology Students committed to meeting needs and standing in solidarity with one another.

We're organizing to address an urgent concern: the growing vulnerability of international students at the School of Theology. Ideally, during summer months, students would return home to work and earn money for the next semester(s). But due to the current political climate, international students have been advised not to leave the country, as there is a high probability that they may not be allowed to return.

According to student visa regulations, students may be employed for up to 40 hours per week, but ONLY through Boston University. There's a low supply of campus jobs, and as a result, students are forced to find accommodations with extremely limited finances.

While there are University efforts underway to assess the scope and severity of the situation, time is short, and students need assistance now.

We believe coordinating a collaborative response across networks and communities is the most meaningful way to address the urgent needs.

There are 88 international students at STH, and need varies greatly.

While it will not satisfy everything, we're starting this GoFundMe in an effort to raise $40,000 - getting 20 students $2,000 each to help defray the costs of rent, food, utilities and insurance from June until the end of August. Again, we're well aware that $2,000 will not meet all of their needs for three months in Boston, but it will help fill necessary gaps.

Whether you can give $5, $50, $500 or more, every little bit helps.

And if you are a Church or Organization, and want to help sponsor a student for the full $2,000, we'd be more than grateful!

Several students will be evicted from student housing on May 19th, so we thank you in advance for moving with urgency.
