Early this morning we found ourselves racing to South Donegal following a report of two donkeys in a dire situation.

We were horrified to find two mares in unbelievable condition. Both donkeys had seriously overgrown hooves and had obviously been attacked by crows.

One of the mares was shockingly missing her ears. Just the most horrific site.

Her companion was in even worse condition as she was much weaker and had been completely unable to fend off the crows. She had three open wounds on her body where the crows had been eating her as she lay helplessly enduring extreme pain.

Both donkeys were living on a farm and the owners were not forthcoming as to how the first donkey had lost her ears. We are very grateful to the Gardai and the vet who ensured that we were able to remove the donkeys from these premises.

Both will need extensive veterinary treatment if they are to survive. Please help in any way that you can. No donation is too small. Thank you from all at DDS.
