Kayla is a devoted community activist who has spent much of her young adult life raising her voice for justice. She has been on the front lines of the Free Palestine movement, Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ+ rights, and more. She has even been arrested while peacefully protesting, standing firm in her commitment to fight for what’s right. Kayla has always shown up for her community—and now, in her time of need, it’s our turn to show up for her.
I am urgently raising $5,000 to help my dear friend Kayla safely relocate after being illegally evicted and subjected to months of harassment and abuse from her landlord.
I’ve known Kayla for nearly ten years, and she has been one of the most devoted and constant friends in my life. She’s the kind of person who shows up without hesitation—helping me move, supporting me with everyday tasks, and most importantly, being there for me during some of my hardest moments. When I had top surgery and didn’t have anyone else to call on, Kayla was the one who showed up. She is an incredible friend, a kind soul, and someone who deserves safety, stability, and support in return.
But instead of being able to live in peace in the apartment she called home for five years, Kayla has been enduring unthinkable treatment from her landlord. Over the past months, he has:
• Entered her home unannounced, even attempting to walk into the bathroom while she was showering.
• Illegally shut off essential utilities such as water, gas, and power in an attempt to drive her out.
• Blamed her for a missing outdoor camera that she had nothing to do with.
• And most recently, while she was away running an errand, he boarded up her windows and doors with two-by-fours and removed all of the doorknobs, making a final attempt to ensure she could not re-enter the home she had lived in for years.
This horrifying escalation forced Kayla to do something no tenant should ever have to do: call the police just to be let back into her own home. The experience was terrifying, triggering, and incredibly difficult—but ultimately, the police were 110% on her side. They immediately recognized the landlord’s actions as illegal and helped Kayla get back inside.
On top of all of this, Kayla has been living with endometriosis for many years. The immense stress of this situation has triggered severe flare-ups, making it even harder for her to physically and emotionally navigate the process of relocating. This is not only unlawful but also dangerous, and it has left her traumatized, displaced, and struggling with her health on top of everything else.
After five years of making this apartment her home, Kayla is now carrying both the emotional weight of this abuse and the financial strain of sudden relocation.
She urgently needs our help. Every dollar raised will go directly toward emergency housing, moving expenses, storage for her belongings, and basic necessities while she works to secure a safe and stable new place to live.
As a Black queer woman, Kayla is already navigating a world that too often fails to protect her. The cruelty of this situation has been devastating, but together, we can step in to remind her that she is not alone.
✨ Please donate what you can, share this campaign widely, and help us get Kayla the stability and safety she deserves. ✨
Thank you for standing with her in this urgent time of need.
