Emergency Relocation Assistance for A Carrington
Donation protected
Hi Everyone,
On Friday, February 11, 2022, I received a certified letter from my landlord Henry Bergdolt letting me know that my lease will not be renewed and I would have to be out of my current apartment by March 31, 2022. This letter came as a complete shock because I was:
1. Unaware I would not be renewed by my landlord even when the lease switched from yearly to month to month April 21, 2022, I had no immediate plans for relaocation.
2. My landlord gave no indication of displeasure or dissatisfaction with my tenancy during my time there and even now still gives no reason for my non-renewal, which is essentially an eviction.
3. I have zero financial resources to aid in the process of; applying for apartments [application fees to multiple complexes], paying first & last month rent, a deposit, plus any additional credit-score related fees, movers and a moving truck, etc. in addition to my bills and utilities and rent for March, all of this information my landlord is keenly aware of.
On the 14th, I spoke with Josh Stroud of Legal Aid NC; he did give me some good information regarding actions I can take for other things that happened while here; however, due to the nature of the lease now being month to month and not yearly, my landlord is within his legal rights regardless of how heartless, traumatizing, confusing, and defeating his actions against me have been. Facing a housing crisis with little to no recourse for support in a timely manner has dramatically impacted my mental health and quality of life over the past week and a half, especially with the current housing crisis AND the extremely high cost of rent in the area. Though I have reached out to CASA, Passages Home, HouseWAKE and Dorcas Ministries, many of these funding resources ran out last year or in January 2022, and some have closed their intake processes indefinitely. However, the resources that I did connect with have an aid timeline that is outside when I would need to be moved, and some have still not replied to multiple follow-up calls or emails. I plan to give a whole week to make sure the apartment is cleaned, re-painted, and left "move-in ready," so time is truly of the essence. I know that times are challenging for everyone, especially now as we learn to live with the disruption of COVID-19 and the local, national and geopolitical stresses we are ALL under, it is a big ask with a short turnaround. However, I appreciate whatever you can do and how you can support whether through donations, signal boosting or even help moving come the time. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns or resources you may find that could help via text or email.
Thank you, truly. It is not easy to ask for help, and I love and appreciate you all.
