Monsoon rains over the past week have caused rivers to burst their banks in North Sumatra province, leading to devastating floods. The deluge tore through mountainside villages, swept away people, and submerged thousands of houses and buildings. Nearly 3,000 displaced families, including some of the artisans, have fled to government shelters. My company’s warehouse was also submerged under water, and I lost all of our inventory and supplies. While we are struggling, we will get by. However, the people in our community—including my staff and the artisans we work with—are in urgent need of help.
Muhib, one of our craftsmen, still has a flooded house and is living in a shelter with his family. They, along with many others, need food and clean water. Prices for basic goods like rice, eggs, and chilies have skyrocketed due to limited stock, making it even harder for families to get by. Government aid hasn’t reached everyone yet, as some areas are still inaccessible. People are using small boats and rafts to survive and reach safer areas, but the situation remains dire.
Tis the season for giving to those who are in need, and these people truly need your support. I will do all I can, but I’ve also lost all my future income. If you can, please help with any amount—it’s super appreciated. Your generosity will help provide food, clean water, and essential supplies to families who have lost everything. Thank you for standing with us in this difficult time.
