The Melbourne University Nepali Student Society (MUNSS) is deeply saddened and heartbroken by the catastrophic flash floods and landslides that have struck Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and surrounding mountain districts in Nepal.
Without warning, severe downpours caused rivers to overflow, sending a destructive wall of muddy water and debris tearing through mountain settlements. The disaster has buried homes, swept away vital bridges and roads, destroyed infrastructure, and displaced hundreds of families. With tragic losses of life and many still missing, communities across these regions face immense devastation and urgent humanitarian distress. This crisis hits close to home for our student community and the wider Nepali diaspora in Australia. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with every affected family, those who have lost loved ones, and everyone anxiously awaiting news of missing friends and relatives.
As a student-led, non-profit community organization at the University of Melbourne, we refuse to stand by while our communities back home face this unprecedented catastrophe alone. MUNSS has launched this GoFundMe disaster relief campaign to mobilize emergency support from students, alumni, the Australian university network, and the broader community.
The collected amount will be sent directly to Government of Nepal's Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.
