On Friday 28th November, my little sister and her fiancé lost their home to a devastating fire.

The fire broke out moments after she left the house—something she had no idea was happening. We are incredibly grateful that she and her fiancé are safe, but the situation could have been so much worse.

Their dog was found collapsed in the lounge from smoke inhalation. Thankfully, he was rescued in time and is now recovering, but the experience has been terrifying for them all.

The entire kitchen was destroyed, and the rest of the house has been severely damaged by smoke. They now face a long period of displacement while everything is assessed and repaired.

Although they do have insurance, there are many immediate expenses that aren’t covered—food, clothing, toiletries, pet care, temporary essentials, and the basic day-to-day items you don’t think about until they’re suddenly gone. Losing your home in a matter of minutes means starting over in ways no one can prepare for.
