Emergency Relief for Cindi Ashbee

Donation protected

Last night, Thursday, March 11, Cindi awoke to discover her bedroom engulfed in flames. Debris had begun to fall from the ceiling and flames illumined the surrounding trees outside. Fortunately at that moment she was able to alert her daughter Zoë, partner Matt and two grandsons that their house was on fire.

Thankfully all family members were able to exit safely and managed to save their pets with the exception of one of Cindi's elderly cats, Mic, who was sadly found deceased a distance from the home early this morning.

With the help of incredible neighbours and community members they were able to move vehicles, relocate animals and grab some essentials from the home until it was no longer safe to enter. By the time emergency crews arrived fire had already spread significantly. Given the starting point and nature of the blaze Cindi was not able to save much as her suite burned entirely.

Those fortunate enough to know Cindi know she is an incredibly lovely and compassionate person, wonderful mother and an exceptional 'Lola' as she's referred to affectionately by her grandchildren. There is truly no limit to the love she has for those around her.

For the past 20+ years Cindi's worked for SD68 offering Child, Youth & Family Support at various elementary and high-schools for countless students and families. She now suddenly finds herself in a great place of need.

Cindi moved into her daughter Zoë's attached suite in Errington after living in Nanoose where she cared for her aging father, Don Ashbee, ahead of his passing earlier this year. Prior Cindi lived on Gabriola Island for a number of years and in Nanaimo, where she was born and raised.

Due to the circumstances she is not able to take any tangible items though any and all donations are greatly appreciated as she begins to piece things back together.

We would like to extend our immense gratitude to the Errington and Coombs fire departments, neighbours, community members and all who have reached out to offer support and condolences.

Those wishing and able to assist Zoë and her family can do so here; Weir Family Emergency Fund

Thank you.
