I was on Canouan in the Grenadine Islands when Hurricane Beryl hit and totally devastated the island. Most of the homes were destroyed, and the locals lost everything. The island lost all power, cell service, water etc... and it will not be restored for a month or two at least. I was on the island for 3 days after the hurricane before an emergency plane was sent for me and 4 other American tourists.
I promised the locals I would do everything in my power to get them the money and supplies they need. The money raised here will be used for emergency supplies... Food, water, clothing, shelter, walkie talkies for communication, solar powered devices... anything that will help them as they rebuild.
I will be working with officials on Canouan and people on St. Vincent who can help distribute funds and supplies. Anything and everything helps... Many of the people on the Island were left with only the clothes on their backs.
Despite everything, the people of Canouan are hopeful, full of love and gratitude, and continue to rally together as a community. Their resilience and generosity of spirit in the wake of such tragedy is truly humbling.
