Emergency Medical Help for Paul Walmark
Donation protected
In December 2018 my father Paul Walmark suffered a vertigo attack causing a horrible fall, aggravating injuries sustained after a motor vehicle accident. This landed him in the hospital in Bali, Indonesia for three and a half weeks with severe hip bruising, aggravation of vertebral fractures, and near complete immobility. During his time in hospital Paul had to undergo multiple x-rays, MRIs, drug therapy for the crippling pain, and extensive physiotherapy. This was after a year already fraught with accidents, injuries, and expensive hospital visits: in February he was in a scooter accident and broke three ribs and his collar bone, in June 2018 he sustained compressed vertebrae fractures doing some heavy lifting, and in September 2018 he broke two more ribs in a fall.
Paul spent his holidays in agonizing pain, worried that he might not ever walk again. With a lot of pain, determination, and physiotherapy, Paul was able to stand again and eventually walk with the aid of a walker. He’s now back in his home and house-bound as he does not have a car and the transit infrastructure in Bali is woefully limited.
Paul has been living in Bali since 2009, after the cost of living in Canada became unmanageable on the Canadian Pension Plan alone. He made the very difficult choice to leave his family and his home in order to survive and live in reasonable comfort for the remainder of his life.
Unfortunately, living in Indonesia means living without the health insurance that we are so fortunate to have in Canada. While the move away has been financially beneficial overall, this past year Paul has been saddled with nearly $8,000 in hospital bills. His resources are exhausted and he is in desperate need of funds to pay his most recent hospital bill (over $3,500), ongoing outpatient care, and bi-weekly physiotherapy.
Paul is very much in need of any support you may be able to provide. Thank you for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers.
