Emergency medical help for a loving kitten
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Marc and in the past 24hr I have experienced an exhausting, anxious, depressing state no one should experience.
In the past 24 hours my little one of 2 years (Gee-Tee) has just got through a blood transfusion and following after thus will be mountable of tests.
She has extreme low blood count (10) = very anaemic. Not only this.... she has type 'B' which means it is rare to find in and around sysdeny (donors). But I managed to get one in Rosebery in Sydney East.
She's currently at Sydney Veterinary Emergency & Specialists.
For me it has been a roller-coaster. I'm studying, no income (only benefits), I'm a volunteer at Salvation Army in Sydney and this relates to my studies in IT. And having my own medical issues.... I am fighting it and trying my best to survive.
Your help goes to Gee-Tee who has supported me when I have been down...lonely.
I don't want sympathy or empathy but relief.
Iam trying keep my head above water but I feel this is not going to last very long.
Your help to keep one of my best friends alive would be much appreciated.
Update:
Tuesday 17th October 2023:
Today was an overcast soggy day here in Sydney. Likewise with Gee-Tee sleeping and more sleeping.
She was unable to sit on the balcony.
She ate well this morning yet after lunch she was more interested in sleeping and cleaning herself.
She appears fine but it's the inside that really important to know if her body is fine. Her paws were not as pink... but just. Yet her gums appeared to more pink.
Tomorrow is the results of the blood test.
Monday 16th October 2023:
- bloods done and will be examined by the pathologist
- her red blood cells count is stable at 15% + 2%. It could have been more if she didn't eat too much tuna!!!
- informed that some cats can survive with low red blood cells!!!
- she's eaten well and drank a crap load of water.
- she's now on the balcony
Sunday 15th October 2023:
Gee-Tee is doing well by the day... yet very minute steps. Yesterday she was a bit more alive, with the summer sun on the balcony (until 9pm!!!), buffet food I display to her each moment of the day.
Today, has been a bit cooler hence not on the balcony that much... but presently (6:32pm) I picked her up and placed with me on the balcony for the late afternoon outdoor. But it's cold.
I'm not pleased but has to be done... she needs to fast tonight for her full blood test tomorrow at 10am.
Some donations have come through last week and that had gone to Friday Dr appointment. Again, money coming through tomorrow will go towards her full blood test.
The massive question is will she need a bone marrow test. That will be determined by the blood test results on Wednesday.
Please keep Gee-Tee in your prayers.
I know many of you have pets and these situations are extremely painful. Especially when you have to decide.
Friday 13th October 2023
After speaking to the Dr:
-She's now at 17% up from 15% red blood count.
-She looks fine with the doctor compared to 2 days ago.
- no anxiety tablets at this stage due to her medication intake atm.
- I plan to bring her again on Monday for another red blood check
- she could be in either the immune or leukemia bracket still.
Thursday 12th October 2023:
I was allowed to bring Gee-Tee home as her red blood count was 16 in the morning and 15 when I took her home around 3pm.
Thursday: she has surprisingly had a bit more energy however her state (gums) at times were pale and other times pink. Even her paws were on and off pink.
Tomorrow Friday 12th she will be going back to the same hospital for a reading.
The blood test results are a concern. The baby red blood cells are not forming properly. More tests are required and may need a bone marrow test for any abnormalities.
