At the end of November, I fulfilled a lifelong dream of rescuing a dog. From the very first day Bjork and I met, there was an immediate, almost psychic connection — I knew we were meant to find each other.

Everyone who meets her is first wowed by her beauty, and then deeply moved by how unbelievably sweet, curious, and trusting she is. In just six weeks, Bjork has completely captured my heart.

The week before Christmas, Bjork started to seem unwell. Something in my gut told me to bring her to the emergency vet. She was given fluids and bounced back just in time to enjoy a beautiful Christmas surrounded by pets, friends, and family. Sadly, after that day, her health began to decline rapidly, and we found ourselves in and out of the emergency vet daily.

On December 29th, Bjork’s platelet count dropped to zero. She was diagnosed with Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia (IMT) — a serious autoimmune disease in which the immune system mistakenly destroys its own platelets. She required an immediate, life-saving blood transfusion.

Her veterinary team is now working to determine what may have triggered this illness and whether it is treatable. While her prognosis is considered grim, some dogs are able to recover with continued care, and we are doing everything possible to give her that chance.

I would pay any amount of money to see Bjork live a life with comfort and dignity. Unfortunately, in the process of getting her diagnosed and stabilized, I have exhausted all available lines of credit.

Bjork has only been part of my life for six weeks — some of my friends haven’t even had the chance to meet her yet — but I can say without hesitation that she has my entire heart. I cherish every moment we’ve had together and any more time I am lucky enough to get.
