Hi everyone,
I wanted to reach out and give you all an update on Chad. Unfortunately, the news is not what we hoped for, and we are facing a very difficult reality. I am sorry if this is how you are finding out the news, but this is very sudden to all of us within the last week.
Chad has been staying in the Philippines for the last 8 months, and has since had his income cut off in October. He was due to return home, and start his journey on January 29th. Unfortunately his health took a dramatic turn which led an ambulance ride and admission to a hospital in the Philippines
Our family got the official diagnosis and update last night. We are thankful for the care he is receiving given the circumstances of being so far from home, but unfortunately without medical insurance this is coming at a rapidly high cost. The hospital often requiring upfront costs or even money upfront for them to outsource medication (as it's often bought outside the hospital and brought in)
With that said...
The doctors have shared that his condition is critical and high-risk due to several failing systems:
Liver & Kidneys: He has end-stage cirrhosis of the liver and is experiencing kidney failure and complications because of the severity.
Infection: His body is in septic shock (sepsis)
Respiratory Distress: He is fighting severe pneumonia on top of this. He is currently in respiratory distress and the medical team is doing everything they can to support his breathing, and he is still intubated. They tried to take him off but his blood oxygen level falls to 80% and below.
The doctors are maxing out all available medications, but they have been very honest that because so many organs are failing at once, the prognosis is not good.
We are all doing everything in our power to ensure Chad receives the care and dignity he deserves, in likely his final days, and weeks ahead. Any donations will go directly towards his mounting hospital bills, life sustaining medications, comfort and care being so far from home, and of course the complex logistics and needs of his care in the Phillipines.
Your support means the world to our family as we navigate this heartbreaking journey.
Thank you ❤️
Joanne, Gord, Ozzie, Connie & The Girls.
