I am organizing this gofundme on behalf of my Fiancée, Carlos. Carlos is a dad to our two daughters ages 5 and 1 years old. Carlos has been courageously battling his rare auto-immune disease, Myasthenia Gravis (MG) for 2 1/2 years. He has always remained positive and has tried to not let his disease stop him from being a fun active dad or hard worker. Carlos is experiencing a Myasthenia Crisis. Carlos recently lost most mobility from the waist down, unable to keep his head up, droopy eye has had shortness of breathe, & he is very tired, making it difficult for him to talk. His diaphragm is very weak obstructing his airways causing the shortness of breathe. His disease normally affects his right side of his body but now it has been affecting his left side. Carlos had received 3 doses out of 5 IVIG transfusions already when he fell in the shower because of muscle weakness. IVIG which in the past has helped Carlos gain strength was not providing relief anymore. Carlos is now currently undergoing an emergency medical procedure named Plasma Exchange (PLEX), a life-saving but incredibly expensive procedure that removes harmful antibodies from the blood. PLEX is critical to stabilizing Carlos’ condition but is not fully covered by insurance. This treatment will continue for the next 10 days. He is currently on oxygen along with PLEX. This treatment is to ensure Carlos can regain nerve-muscle communication and reduce his MG symptoms. He is also being seen by respiratory therapists twice a day. Doctors were about to resort towards intubation but wanted to avoid such an intense procedure as much as possible. We’re hoping this PLEX treatment helps him in order to still avoid intubation.

We are asking for 16,000 to help ease the financial burden from loss of income due to being unable to work. 16,000 will help cover costs of co-payments, a long hospital stay, follow ups, prescription medications, bills, travel to and from specialists, home care, and other supportive needs. This will ensure Carlos gets the consistent care he urgently needs.

We have been doing our best to cover cover costs but it is extremely hard with how expensive his medical care is and how fast costs have been piling up.
