Hello! My name is Zeny and my nephew’s son, Baby Nathan Brent De Guzman, is in need of a life saving surgery.
My nephew (Michael), his wife (Marian) and Baby Nathan currently reside in UAE. Marian, had a healthy pregnancy. She went to all of her prenatal check-ups and took all of her vitamins. Nathan was born at 38 weeks and 5 days. His discharge summary and newborn screenings were all normal except for that he was jaundiced, which is common in newborn babies.

When Baby Nathan was 2 months old, his parents were worried as he was still jaundiced so they brought him to see his doctor for a check-up. During his check up in Al Jalila hospital, they did multiple tests and an ultrasound. The ultrasound was normal but he had a high billirubin and the count was not going down after several tests. They were asked to see a gastroenterologist and was found out that it is direct jaundice.
Due to Baby Nathan’s high bilirubin he was diagnosed with Billiary Atrisia. During the check up with the gastroenterologist and the surgeon, they wanted to perform the major surgery called Kasai procedure before Baby Nathan turned 3 months old. Baby Nathan’s parents decided to move forward with the procedure and was admitted the following day but were informed that due to non availability of a PICU bed they couldn’t perform the operation. His parents took him to another hospital the next day at Al Qassimi Women’s & Children’s Hospital where Baby Nathan had the 8 hour surgery on August 31, 2022.
The doctors were trying to prevent him from getting infections to avoid needing liver transplant in the future if the Kasai procedure fails. When Baby Nathan feels unwell, his loving parents drove him to the nearest hospital in their area, which is 40 miles away.
Unfortunately, Baby Nathan’s liver is not doing well, going from 75% function to 50% and my nephew and his wife was informed to prepare themselves as Baby Nathan will need a liver transplant soon.
Latest update: My nephew, Michael, is needing to collect the money for the surgery asap as Baby Nathan has ascites - collecting fluids in his stomach. Ascites is a sign of liver damage and if left untreated, it can lead to life-threatening complications.
Michael is going to be tested to be the donor.
He is taking Baby Nathan to India on the first/second week of February for the surgery.

Please help us take care of Baby Nathan to live a long and happy life with his proud parents.
Thank you all in advance!
