Emergency Housing & Relocation Support
It is humbling for me to be in a position where I need to ask for help. Many who know me know that I work in the humanities and am often the one supporting others whether in community, in crisis, or through my work. But in this moment, I am left with no choice but to reach out to my community for support as I navigate an unexpected and urgent housing crisis.
In preparation for a planned relocation, I secured new housing in advance while still meeting my lease obligations in the South. I had carefully planned and budgeted for a short period of overlapping rent in two places. However, during the holiday season, my temporary housing arrangement was unexpectedly changed, and I suddenly had to secure a new place to live with almost no notice.
I immediately searched, was approved for a new residence, and was able to cover the security deposit on my own. But this unexpected disruption set off a cascade of unplanned and time-sensitive expenses all at once ongoing rent in the South through March, out-of-state travel and moving costs, move-in fees and utilities, and the expenses necessary to properly close out my previous housing.
I have always supported myself independently and have worked hard to carry my responsibilities with care. Asking for help is not easy for me, and this situation has placed me in a vulnerable and humbling position. The financial weight of these overlapping and unexpected costs is more than I can manage alone in such a short timeframe.
I am humbly asking for support to help me stabilize my living situation during this winter and ensure I have safe, secure housing as I transition. Any contribution of any size will go directly toward essential relocation and housing expenses and will make a real and meaningful difference during a time when I truly need it.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for sharing if you can, and for any support you feel called to offer. I am deeply grateful.
