Emergency Hero in need
Donation protected
As a part of the UIC community we have always rallied to help our own as well as the community we serve. Over the last four years Karon has embodied this creed as well as her own family. Unfortunately this year, like many of us, unforeseen circumstances have come. At a time when most of us are embracing our families and showing thankfulness for this blessed time of year, Karon has been separated from hers. On 19 December Karon experienced severe neck pain but figured it was only stress related. By the time she arrived at work the severity increased and she was rushed to UI Health hospital. She was informed that emergency surgery was needed to correct a previous surgery involving her spine less than two years prior. Fortunately, surgery mitigated any further damage to her spine, but it has left her with limited use of her left side. As a left hand dominate person, she is unable to work now.
As a single mother of three (9 yr. old son and 2 yr. old twins) at Christmas time, she is heartbroken. There has not been a day when the UIC community has not stopped in to bring a smile or see if there is anything, we can do for her. Tentatively Karon is looking at a 6-month rehab process with no benefit time left due to her initial surgery. During this time monies for rent, clothing, and food as well as care for her children and of course medical expenses are needed. We are asking for donations of any amount to help her and her family. It is hard enough being away from her kids as COVID-19 regulations at healthcare centers do not allow visitation, but she also worries about being able to financially care for her children as well.
Thank you in advance for whatever you can do to help.
