Temporary Financial Hardship
Donation protected
Original purpose/background information: due to government funding and Medicaid cuts, I lost my job as an EMT in the social services, helping those experiencing addiction, homelessness, and mental health issues. After two weeks off, I was re-hired to work on a different team, but I lost two whole weeks of pay during that time, after already struggling financially for several months prior to that.
UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who has donated and also reached out to ask about sending me something over Venmo, or even shared this with their friends. I appreciate every gesture, big or small. I went back to work this week, and was able to work 4 full shifts plus 6 extra hours for a mandatory meeting and refresher class, bringing my total hours this week to 54 (14 hours overtime). So while my next paycheck will only have one week on it instead of two, it will still be fairly substantial and allow me to pay the majority of June's rent that is remaining. The check after that (July 3) will be a full check. Between that, and the donations I've already received, I should be good on the rent for both June and July.
I will be leaving the fundraiser up with a modified name, because paying the rent is no longer the emergency it was when I created it. However, things will of course still be difficult for a while after missing two whole weeks of work. So at this point, anything you donate will probably be going toward one of the following:
- Paying the IRS for the taxes I owed this year, so I don't get ridiculous late fees/penalties for not paying.
- Paying back loans I was planning to pay with my last paycheck before I found out about the layoff.
- Paying the electric bill.
- Groceries, food, household necessities.
- Replacing what I had saved in my divorce fund -- which I had to use to help me through this time -- so I can still file for a legal divorce like I've been trying to do for about a year and a half.
