Emergency help while I arrange grandpa's care
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Kayla, and I’m my grandfather’s DPOA and MPOA — which means I’m legally and medically responsible for everything related to his care, finances, and well-being.
He’s 82, diabetic, and now suffering from severe vascular issues and worsening cognitive decline. He recently had a major health episode that left him hallucinating, confused, and unable to care for himself completely. It’s like everything changed overnight. We’re in a holding pattern with doctors now, a “wait and watch” situation, but every day that passes without answers adds more to the pile.
I stepped into this role after my mom passed away. It was supposed to be her. And now I’m the one trying to keep everything from falling apart. It’s brutal, emotionally and mentally. And I need help.
This fundraiser is to give me room to breathe while I figure everything out — because there’s a lot to figure out.
I need time to talk to doctors and push for answers.
I need to schedule and attend appointments.
I have to speak to his banks, find all his bills, and take over his financials.
I have to look into VA resources, possible benefits, and home care options.
And I have to do all of that while trying to keep a roof over our heads and manage the day-to-day chaos this has brought into our lives.
He can’t be alone right now, and I can’t be in two places at once. The hospital hasn’t given much help. Nobody really tells you how hard it is to step into this role, especially when you’re grieving one parent (my mom) and trying to take care of her parent as well (my grandfather).
Every donation, no matter how small, honestly helps me hold the line while I do what needs to be done. It helps cover expenses while I make calls, attend meetings, set things up, and protect him the way he deserves. He’s vulnerable right now. He deserves someone in his corner. And I’m doing my best to be that person. But I can’t keep doing it without help.
If you can donate or even just share, it truly means the world to me.
Thank you for any help possible.
