Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,
We are reaching out with an urgent plea for help for our incredibly strong friends, Tim McGinnity and Barbara McLeod, who are facing a devastating medical, financial, and housing emergency all at once.
For the past year or so Barbara has been bravely recovering from cancer, a journey that requires all her strength. Now, she faces an impossible choice: focus on her own healing or become the full-time caregiver for Tim.
Tim has suffered a detached retina, a critical and sight-threatening injury. He is scheduled for emergency surgery Wednesday the 26th to reattach the retina and hopefully save his vision.
The Impossible Situation: No Work, No Disability, No Home
The detached retina diagnosis has thrown their lives into chaos, creating severe instability:
- Immediate Caregiving Crisis: Tim must remain in a strict face-down recovery position for several weeks, making him completely dependent. Barbara, who should be prioritizing her own post-cancer recovery, is now forced into this demanding, full-time caregiver role.
- Housing Instability: Tim and Barbara were scheduled to move out of their current home immediately. Due to the emergency surgery, they are physically unable to pack, lift, or secure their belongings, putting their housing plans on hold and creating immense stress at a time when rest is critical.
- No Financial Safety Net: Both Tim and Barbara are now out of work, and tragically, Tim is not eligible for disability benefits. Their household income has stopped entirely, leaving them without the funds for medical bills, housing, or the necessary professional help.
They need our community's help to survive the next two months.
Our Goal & How Your Donation Helps:
We have set a goal of $20,000 to provide them with the stability they desperately need to focus on healing. Every dollar will be used to cover the following specific, immediate needs:
- Loss of Income & Living Expenses: Replacing the wages lost by both Tim and Barbara, providing a safety net for rent, utilities, and groceries while Tim recovers and they stabilize their housing.
- No Financial Safety Net: Both Tim and Barbara are now out of work, and tragically, Tim is not eligible for disability benefits. Their household income has stopped entirely, leaving them without the funds for medical bills, housing, or the necessary professional help.
- Essential Medical and Caregiver Costs: Covering high deductibles/co-pays for both Tim's emergency surgery and Barbara's ongoing cancer recovery care. This also covers the cost of part-time professional in-home care, so Barbara can finally get the rest she needs for her own health.
A Call to Action:
Please consider donating today to help Tim save his sight and ensure Barbara has a safe, stable place to continue her cancer recovery. Your support is a lifeline that addresses not just a medical need, but an urgent housing and income crisis.
If you are unable to donate, please share this campaign widely. Your action provides hope.
We will share updates on Tim's progress and Barbara's health. Thank you for lifting this overwhelming burden from their shoulders.
With Deep Gratitude,
Tami Pounds/long time freind
