Hi, my name is Maryssa. I never imagined I’d be in this position, but I’m reaching out because this is an absolute emergency.

If I am not out of this house by the end of this month, I will be homeless.

I’ve been living in an unsafe and abusive situation. I lost my job after speaking up about stolen tips and mistreatment. My ex-boyfriend — who was also one of my bosses — retaliated, refuses to give me the paperwork I need to collect unemployment, and has become increasingly abusive. He has:

• Thrown coffee in my face

• Broken my belongings and stolen from me

• Recorded me inside my own home using hidden cameras

• Controlled my movements (not allowing me to have friends over or even go to the lodge)

On top of that, I have no car to get anywhere — not even for groceries — and because I live in the middle of the Sawtooth Mountains, there’s no Uber or easy way to leave. I feel trapped, unsafe, and completely isolated.

At the same time, I’m caring for my momma cat and her kittens. Tragically, I’ve already lost several of the babies due to the stress and lack of resources. My heart is broken, but I’m determined to give the surviving kittens and their mom a safe, healthy future.

On top of all this, my dad’s health has gotten worse, and I need to be home with him and my family while I still can.

My only option is to move across the country back to Rhode Island, where I can be safe, be with family who love me, and start rebuilding my life. Flying would be cheaper, but it’s simply not possible — I can’t leave behind momma cat and her kittens. That’s why I must rent a moving truck and drive the full distance.

Why don’t you just fly instead of driving?

Flying would be cheaper, but it’s not an option. I have a momma cat and her surviving kittens, and I can’t leave them behind. Driving with a moving truck is the only way to get us all safely to Rhode Island.

This covers:

Why can’t you just stay where you are?

I am not safe here. My ex-boyfriend (and former boss) has been abusive — throwing coffee in my face, breaking my belongings, recording me with hidden cameras, and controlling my movements. I don’t have a car, can’t even get groceries, and I live in the mountains where there’s no Uber or easy way out. I must leave before the end of this month or I will be homeless.
