Emergency help for Doug

My name is Irma and I am Douglas’s wife. On March 15th, Doug came home from work with an irritated eye and he thought he was getting pink eye.

On Saturday the 16th I knew it wasn’t pink eye and something worse; it looked so much like an ulcer. I took him to the urgent care and we were sent to the ER. He was diagnosed with a Cornea Ulcer of his left eye and we were discharged by midnight.

They scheduled him a follow up at the ER for Easter morning, but by this time he couldn’t see anything out of his left eye. They decided to admit him due to the pain, infection, and elevated blood pressure.

Culture’s were taken and they came back positive for a bacterial infection called Pseudomonas. Due to the cornea ulcer and infection he remained admitted with antibiotics drops every hours.

He was discharged April 22, 2022, and I had his ophthalmologist appt already scheduled right after.

Unfortunately, after his eye examination we learned about the severity of his eye. The cornea ulcer is severe and all over the eye; which will cause severe scarring. This will cause vision loss and will result in a future cornea transplant. If no improvement, he could possibly loose his whole left eye.

At this time we are waiting to find out where this urgent referral will be sent. We are aggressively treating this infection and doing multiple antibiotics drops every hour.

This was a very unexpected condition that arrived, and it has drastically effected our family. Doug has had the financial responsibility of myself and our 8 children. I homeschool 4 of our children full time. I had recently began working part-time as a cosmetologist only in the evenings/weekends, and I have no set income.

We also have a daughter who is disabled and I do care for her full-time; including traveling out of state for all her care at a Children’s Hospital in Oregon. I will now be responsible for the travel and care of my husband Doug and our daughter; including the responsibility of our other children.

Doug will not be able to work and at this point we do not know how long he will be out of work. I am in the process of helping him apply for FMLA; but we are not sure how much he has available or if he will qualify; because he has used FMLA to help care for our kids when I travel out of state for our daughter.

I am asking for any donations in order to help Doug from any financial stress, as his wages are our primary source of income. We will be using the money to help with traveling cost, hotel, food expenses that will arise over the next couple of days. He will also have out of pocket cost for medications and health care not covered by insurance. We will also be having out of pocket expenses for a cornea transplant.

My hope is to help him focus on recovery, and that he won’t have to worry so much about his family. This will be a huge help for our family.

Every donation is greatly appreciated. There is no donation too small.

Blessings,
