Hi, we’re Lekshmi and Praveen.

We’re a couple who recently went on a road trip we had been dreaming about and planning for over two months. It was meant to be a peaceful getaway before starting a new chapter in our lives — a moment of calm before stepping into big life changes. We’ve been working hard, managing loans, and preparing to move and rebuild, with hopes for a brighter future.

But during this trip, something unimaginable happened — on the way to Banff, a deer suddenly jumped in front of our rental car. We couldn’t avoid the collision. The impact was severe, and the car was left badly damaged.

We believed we had purchased full coverage insurance for our rental car. But after the accident, we discovered that the third-party coverage we bought only offers limited protection. The rental company is now holding us responsible for the full cost of the damage — we’ve been told it could reach $16,000 to $18,000. The insurance we thought would protect us only covers about €1,700 (roughly $2,400 CAD), even that is not sure, leaving us with a remaining balance of more than $16,000.

This was something we never imagined — especially when we were already trying so hard to hold everything together. All of the savings we had set aside for our move and our new beginning are now being consumed by this unexpected emergency.

We’re doing our best, but the weight of this situation is overwhelming.
