Emergency heart surgery for Shama

Donation protected
Together with Taslima Akhter, photographer and Magnum Foundation Fellow,
Aminul Shama (36) founded the  Bangladesh Garment Workers Solidarity,
a nonprofit to support the widows and workers following the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse.

Nine years ago, Shama had to leave the factory where he was working to have two of his heart valves replaced. Now he needs another surgery to save his life. His heart is not functioning properly, leading to difficult breathing and accumulation of fluid in his lungs.

The estimated medical bill is $5867, needed by June 1 for this life-saving surgery.

We hope you can help.

This campaign has been set up by two Magnum Foundation fellows, Taslima Akhter and Sumeja Tulic, and their friend, Muhammad Uddin. Muhamad and Sumeja are based in the USA and have been running the GoFundMe campaign. Taslima, based in Bangladesh, has been doing outreach work and handling the campaign's logistical details.

Taslima is a close collaborator with the beneficiary of the campaign, Aminul Shama. Together they have founded the Bangladesh Garment Workers Solidarity.

The funds raised will be used for Shama's surgery. If any funds are left after paying the medical bill, they will be spent on Shama's post-surgical recovery.

The funds will be withdrawn by Muhammad Uddin, who will transfer the money to the bank account of the hospital taking care of Shama and his hear surgery.
