Emergency Guardianship for Emmie

Many of you know me as the Founder and Director of New Life Animal Rescue, a well-known, loved, and respected nonprofit special needs / critical care animal rescue organization here in NJ.

I adopted my youngest daughter Emily Grace when she was 14 months old. Emmie is a cardiac patient with DiGeorge Syndrome causing 185 anomalies, and has endured 7 open heart surgeries, cardiac arrest, strokes, compression fractures in her spine from poor bone density, and is strictly tube fed around the clock because she aspirates and is not able to eat or drink.

Emmie also has severe cognitive delays and requires assistance with basic care. I am her primary and full time caregiver.

Emmie recently turned 21 which is the age that disabled children “age out” of pediatric services.

This means that I need to attain legal guardianship to be able to make medical decisions on Emmie’s behalf, assist her during doctor and hospital visits, and accompany her during hospital stays to help her communicate her needs and comfort her.

Emmie is now in need of cardiac care, and an emergency guardianship is needed. Until this process is started, we can’t even access her medical records. Our family desperately needs your help!
