Hi. I'm Gemini, a disabled Black trans woman based in Maryland, and I need your help (once again) to the next step.

As some of you may know, rideshare has been the gig keeping my fiancée, Rose, and I alive (beyond the support y'all have already given - and we appreciate y'all). And as y'all also know, we're supposed to be packing to move to Baltimore in 15 days (!!!)

When misfortune strikes, it strikes hard...wind out of sails and all.

Last night, the timing chain on my 2016 Chevy Equinox decided that it was the perfect time to call it a life... And, as a result, I now have an undrivable vehicle, and thus, no regular source of income.

The repair? Nearly $2000, by itself, assuming my engine doesn't need to be rebuilt or replaced in the process (another $1500-1800, and would put the repair totals on a $5,500 car to roughly what we paid for it - in seven months)

This was our bread and butter, and has been my "Plan B" for nearly ten years while I have navigated levels of instability that have left me on the teetering edge of homelessness multiple times this year alone.

I don't have an emergency fund --- none of us do. And the bits and pieces that are coming in to keep us stable all hinged on me continuing to have a working car. My partner's income is fixed, and at this point, is likely to have to go entirely to rent payments.

If I can't get back to gig work, I can't:

- pay our phone bill (due Monday)

- pay our movers (coming the morning of 12/3)

- keep us afloat while we settle into a completely new city

- feed us

- pick up my daughter next month

Gig work is largely how we have survived 2025. And I need it in order to help us navigate 2026 without ending up on the streets.

I'm afraid we're going to lose everything. Please, if you can, help me stopgap this. Help me into a new car. Payments aren't currently an option for a vehicle between the lack of credit and income...I can't solve either of these problems without a gig to do that with. (I'm already going to have to tell my delivery gig that I can't work since I don't have a working car.)

Please help me get back on the road. Our lives depend on it at this point. We're down to one meal a day most days, we're running out of toiletries, my disabilities are worsening... I can't fix this on my own. Not anymore...

The goal is set to $7500 because in order to drive for Uber/Lyft in my market, a driver must use a 2015 or newer 4-door vehicle to take passengers. After tax, title, inspection and registration fees, that's about what a $6,000 vehicle will cost...and $6,000 appears to be the sweet spot for a used 2015-17 vehicle at the moment.
