Maddox is a 2.5 year old Pomeranian who has been the picture of health until 6 days ago.
If you are not familiar with me, I’ve been rescuing dogs since 2005. I created Chow Chow Rescue Society and was able to help hundreds of dogs in need. I’ve been able to help pet owners with emergency bills, food, care.
Now, I am reaching out for help with our pup Maddox.
What started as some slight diarrhea turned into vomiting bile, dark diarrhea, lethargy and not eating or drinking.
On Friday we took him to Palm Springs Animal Hospital where bloodwork and X-rays were taken. Ruling out an obstruction, infection, parvo, pancreatitis etc. he was very sick with a fever of 104.5.
His bloodwork showed extreme dehydration and increased potassium. He was given IV fluids, flagyl and a 24hr nausea medication. This bill was $2000.00 and that was with a discount.
We were sent home with flagyl and a gel potassium support. Over the weekend Maddox would show increased thirst but vomited up the water. He refused all food attempts. By early Monday morning he was taken back to Palm Springs Animal Hospital.
New bloodwork was drawn again showing even worse dehydration and his potassium levels had gotten worse along with his BUN/CREA ratio. His fever had gone down however.
PSAH did an ultrasound which showed inflammation around his right upper gastric area and kidney.
This visit was $1200.00. The vet then said Maddox needs 24hr care and we needed to take him to the ER.
Monday afternoon Maddox was transferred to the ER.
VEG ER in Palm Desert, CA gave us a $3k-$4k daily estimate to start his treatment.
This includes new bloodwork, more supportive medications for his GI tract, 24-72hr care, a sonographer. This could be something as simple as a horrible stomach upset or it could be something more severe. Regardless, he has always been a happy, healthy boy and we can’t let him die.
We do not have thousands of dollars to pay for all of this. Especially, after paying $3k already.
Please if you can help, it would mean the world to us. Maddox has been with me and kept me going through so many low points over the past two years. My heart is breaking.
