Enzo Needs Us Right Now… ❤️
Yesterday started like any other day… until it didn’t. Around 8:00 PM, during our routine check in, our foster mentioned that Enzo seemed a little off, a bit more quiet, a bit more tired. Nothing alarming at first… until we got on FaceTime.
What we saw didn’t feel right. Enzo wasn’t responding like he usually does. His head was down and his body looked weak. We asked for clearer videos, hoping it was nothing serious… but the moment we saw them, our hearts dropped. Something was very wrong.
Within a short time, his condition worsened. He couldn’t stand. His legs were limp. His body was shutting down right in front of us.
Our foster acted immediately. She made the drive to meet us, and we rushed Enzo to the emergency vet. Simply put, that decision saved his life.
At the hospital, they rushed him in for bloodwork. The results confirmed how critical this was. His potassium levels were dangerously high, to the point where his heart rhythm was already being affected. He was on the verge of cardiac arrest.
We were told that if he had arrived even 30 minutes to an hour later… he likely would not have made it.
He was immediately placed in ICU, on IV fluids, medication, and in an incubator to stabilize his body.
Further testing showed no stones or physical blockage, but severe inflammation and blood in his urine. The diagnosis points to a
stress-induced functional urethral obstruction
a condition that can escalate extremely fast and become fatal, especially in male cats.
This is also why we share these moments, even when they are hard to watch because awareness matters.
These symptoms can start subtly, a little less energy, not eating, acting “off” and within hours turn into a life-threatening emergency. If sharing this helps even one person recognize the signs sooner, it’s worth it.
Right now, Enzo is stable, but he is not out of danger. The next 48 to 72 hours will be critical.
We’ve been through so much with him, and we truly believe he still has fight left in him. And we are not giving up on him.
But we need to be honest…
His care is expensive. His first night in ICU is already close to $3,000, and each additional night could be around $1,000. This will likely become a $4,000+ emergency bill. We never like asking for help, but right now, we can’t do this alone.
Many rescues might make a different decision in this situation because of the cost. We understand that reality, but it’s not how we operate. To us, Enzo is family, and every life deserves a chance.
If you can donate, share, or keep him in your thoughts, it truly makes a difference. The GoFundMe is in our bio and stories.
Please help us give Enzo the chance he deserves.
