Emergency funds for Dawlon

Donation protected
Update; Hi I’m Letitia, one of Dawlon’s older siblings. Unfortunately as you’ve all might have seen, Dawlon lost his battle after struggling for two weeks! All fund’s previously raised will go towards his funeral as well as new funds that are being donated.

On the 3rd of September roughly 5:10pm, my mother received one of the worst calls you could receive as a parent. My younger brother Dawlon a bubbly 12 year old was riding his scooter when he was struck by a car. The 27 yo male who is assisting police with their investigation had failed to stop after colliding with my brother with his car. Dawlon has sub stained a fracture scull, broken collarbone and arm, burst bladder, internal bleeding and swelling and bleeding of the brain. Dawlon went into life saving surgery on Sunday where we wait to see if the surgery was a success. Dawlon remains in ICU in a critical condition. Funds that will be raised will go towards my brother and his recovery.

With my mother being a single mother and having my 3 brothers live with her; Qld health do not have the capacity to provide accomodation for my 2 other brothers, my mum and family who are travelling near and get to be by my brothers bed side. The road to recovery will not only be difficult for my brother, but for our immediate family. Dawlon will undergo another MRI this morning, on behalf of my mother, myself and my family we thank you for your wishes and donation.
If you’ve witness this accident please contact QPS to help assist with their investigations.

UPDATE 6am 5/09/23; Dawlon will undergo his second surgery today for his upper arm, lower arm and elbow. His right arm was completely snapped. Yesterdays Scan showed that he has a fractured left leg (which will require surgery) a broken left arm (could potentially heal while he is in a coma) shattered pelvis (which will require surgery).

We’ve spoken with the doctors he has had 3 CT scans since being in hospital to watch the progress of his injuries. He will be in hospital a minimum of 2 months and will undergo plenty more surgeries. He will need to have a MRI done at some stage today or tomorrow, they currently don’t want to bc of the radiation he has had in the past couple of days. This will determine the mass of internal bleeding and a few other issues that the CT scan can’t pick up due to the swelling.

Dawlon is on a ventilator (100%) which is doing all the breathing for him. My mum has spoken with social workers, Ronald McDonald house is not an option, they are at capacity. However they’ve organised alternative accommodation at a hostel.

With witnesses coming forward Dawlon was crossing the road (green light too) where the driver had failed to stop at the red light. Dawlon has then hit the drivers car gone flying and then ran over.

My family & I did not know the driver was under the influence until last night, but we had been told the driver was at fault. We didn’t know what the scene looked like until last night which you could imagine was very very confronting. We have also been in regular contact with QPS especially the officer who was first on scene. Although they see these accidents each and every time it’s confronting especially on Father’s Day where majority of the first responders have families.

Update 6/09/2023 6:30am;
Dawlon had a busy day yesterday, he underwent surgery where he got his right upper arm and lower arm screwed back together with a flexible nail. He also got multiple screws and bolt in the left leg. Dawlon has completely snapped his growth plate in his left leg, the screws and bolt that were put in will hopefully grow with him.

During surgery, Dawlon had a few hiccups. The pressure of his brain kept fluctuating which required the team to stop snd re-stabilise him. He also had to get a blood transfusion due to the amount of blood he has lost. The CT scan he had done has shown no progress and doctors haven’t been able to determine whether he will have any more injuries due to the swelling. Dawlon is still heavily sedated and still on a ventilator which is breathing for him. Doctors will send him off for his MRI today to see the extend of his injuries.

Today will be the waiting day, last night & today will be the peak of his injury with swelling, pain ect. Doctors have talked about decreasing his sedation to see how his body reacts. If all goes well they will continue with the decrease sedation. If his body does not react well, they will continue to sedate him the way he is now.

I’ve created this page so you all can track his progress and recovery. I will try and update it daily for you all. I also think this page will show Dawlon the love and support he has received from community members near & far. I also believe this will show Dawlon his progress on his road to recovery.

If your child/ren go to school with Dawlon, they have put in measures to support these students. For everyone who has reached out to myself and my younger brothers to offer support thank you.

The funds that are raised will go towards groceries, clothes, every day living expenses, accomodation ect. On behalf of my family we do thank you for your support and wishes. We will continue to try our best to keep updating but as you can imagine time is hectic.
