Hi, I'm Kate Hartman. On a trip to Bali this year I met and became friends with a Balinese driver and his family, who were struggling with poverty. We successfully raised funds for them to start a shop, and they have been thriving! In addition to opening a shop, they were able to make some badly needed home repairs. They were also able to buy a second motorbike to help with transportation needs.

Now, I'm reaching out again for your support. Niko's family is in need of emergency funding due to a dangerous flood that swept away both of their motorbikes overnight on September 9th.

He wasn't able to find the bikes at first, and was afraid they were gone forever. Luckily with help from friends and neighbors, he eventually located them and was able to pull them from the canal with help. However, both bikes were badly damaged and the motors wouldn't start.

These bikes are vital possessions, as they provide the family's only method of transportation to get his children to school and to take his wife and mother to operate their family's shop.

Niko's bike is also his only source of income, as he workes as a Gojek driver (similar to Uber in the US).

Niko was able to manually push his bike to the repair shop and put a $200 deposit toward the repairs, which is all the money he had saved. Now he needs our help raising the rest of the funds.

Overall he expects the repairs for both bikes to cost $950. This is much less than the price of a new motorbike. It's worth investing so his family's needs can continue to be met. In the meantime he borrowed a friend's motorcycle to take his kids to school, but this is not a long-term solution.
