Emergency fund for Alrowwad Cultural Centre, Aida, Bethlehem
Since 1998, Alrowwad Cultural and Arts Society in Aida refugee camp, Bethlehem has been committed to providing a safe and creative environment for the women and young people of Aida and all over the West Bank, to express themselves through cultural and educational activities, saving lives and inspiring hope.
On 3 December the Centre was broken into and turned into a temporary detention/interrogation centre by the IOF. 65 people from the camp and surroundings were taken and interrogated in the centre for six hours with equipment, doors and furniture destroyed during the break in.
In light of this destruction and violation of a cultural space, Friends of Alrowwad in Europe are raising emergency funds to replace equipment broken so that the team at Alrowwad can resume their focus on cultural and humanitarian work for the community and reestablish confidence that Alrowwad Cultural Centre continues to be a safe haven for the local community.
By contributing to this emergency fund you will offer much needed support, both financially and in solidarity, so that the team at Alrowwad know they are not alone in their continued efforts to provide a safe cultural space for the community in Aida refugee camp and its environs.
Friends of Alrowwad UK is a UK registered charity that supports the cultural and humanitarian work of Alrowwad Cultural Centre in Bethlehem. This is a joint fundraiser with Friends of Alrowwad across Europe.
