Emergency Fund for Mendez Family

Donation protected
A six alarm fire displaced close to 100 people in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, among them my parents, sister, and their dog Leela. My dad grew up on 39th Street, my parents were married at the Church of The Redeemer on 47th, and my mom teaches first grade and kindergarten in the community and has for close to twenty years. Sunset Park is their home.

Almost 36 years ago my parents brought me home from the hospital to their Sunset Park apartment. Yesterday, that apartment we created so many memories in was devastated in the horrific fire. Thanks to FDNY and other first responders everyone made it out of the building alive. The people that made it a home are well and the memories we created will still bring us smiles. We hope they will be able to rebuild in their community.

Many have asked how to help the Mendez Family after the fire destroyed the apartment building they lived in for close to 40 years. Please consider donating to this emergency fund. Any collected resources will go towards temporary housing, replacing essentials, and rebuilding their lives.
