We are CrowdFunding an Emergency Fund for Lillian Burke and Carlos Morales, originally from Columbia, SC, now in Seattle, WA.

On September 14/15, the house where they were both renting rooms went up in flames. Here is a link to some news articles about the tragedy:

Lillian and Carlos made it out in time but lost all of their belonging- furniture, bedding, laptops, musical instruments, clothes, food, dishes, school and art supplies, books, bicycles and more, in the fire. They did not have renter's insurance.

Lillian and Carlos had just moved from Bellingham, WA, to Seattle, WA, paying rent on two places for a bit since affordable housing in both these areas is notoriously hard to find. They start school in less than two weeks at the University of WA. Lillian is pursuing a Master's in Social Work, and Carlos is finishing his Bachelor's degree before pursuing a Masters's in Public Health.

They are safe and temporarily housed with neighbors. We are working on finding them a new place to live. The Red Cross came out the day of the incident, and many people have helped suggest other Emergency resources in the Seattle area. Thank you!

We, Lillian's sisters and family, are organizing on their behalf to get them some extra cash to help buy some of the things they need to get settled again to start school off right.
