I'm posting this gofundme because I'm currently in an unstable living situation that I could be forced out of at any moment, have no formal employment and have had zero luck finding any, and have almost no money whatsoever. Consequently, I'm in need of a financial safety net, while I search for another solution.
Very long story short: I started the year studying abroad under the purview and financial backing of my parents, who were sending me enough money to live but not so much that I wasn't on a rather tight leash. I was struggling in my studies, and they were losing patience with me, so I felt extremely insecure in this situation and the knowledge that they could pull out their support at any time, leaving me stranded without money and employment in an unfamiliar country for which I held no visa or employment papers.
As they were unwilling to let me live at their home due to my mental health issues, they gave me an ultimatum positing that I either continue living with their backing, or come back to the States, where I would receive what was, in effect, a severance package of $1700 USD, after which point they would offer me zero financial support from then on. Deciding I would rather take the risk of financial ruin sooner than later, I chose the latter.
Thusly, I moved back to my home city of Philadelphia, for which my parents financed a flight, and set about staying afloat there while searching for employment and spending my spare time trying to build a following online in the hopes that I might garner enough support there to sustain myself.
This did not pan out, as I failed to find employment before running out of money (which took about three months, if that). I briefly resorted to delivering food on a bicycle with Uber to fill out my pockets, but the depressingly low wages of gig economy delivery drivers and the oppressively high costs of food and rent, combined with my lack of success finding regular employment, did not prove sustainable and I was caught in a bind. Running out of options and facing homelessness, I turned to the internet, where I found another small queer content creator who offered her sympathies and aid. She traveled over several states to bring me to live with her, and since then, I've stayed in a spare room at her family's house free of charge.
In that time, however, she, her partner and I discovered that we're not very compatible as people, and they have been struggling with limited funds on top of that. Tensions have sharply arisen between us, and while she can't find it in her heart to kick me out, she's made it quite clear that her family is not keen on my staying here much longer and this position is overall both financially and socially unsustainable. While I have been given no strict timeline by which I must leave, I've been told in no uncertain terms: "Get out of my life." (actual quote)
As such, I am currently in the market for a new roommate, and am searching my circles of online friends in hopes of finding a new living arrangement. I have no idea how much money I will need to move again, to where or when I may be moving, and may be kicked out of this house by either my youtuber friend or her family at any time without warning. It's best that I garner as much funds as I can in the meantime while I am still able.
Due to the uncertain nature of the situation, I've got no strict budget or cap on how much funds I may need, or when this campaign may end. I've set the goal to $1000 USD as a rough benchmark, but the real goal is "as much as possible, as soon as possible."
