My name is Claire and I live in Oakland/San Francisco CA.
I am asking those, mainly family, friends, and even acquaintances for some assistance over the holidays.
I moved to San Francisco a few years ago without knowing hardly anyone and a dream to create my own little business here, learn, grow, and make friends along the way. I have recently moved onto a boat during the pandemic, but recently incurred a major loss, as I was sleeping on my boat, “my home,” my boat started sinking and I woke up with other sailors telling me to get off the boat with the boat being under water 15 minutes later.
How did it happen? During a major storm that hit Oakland, one of the thru hulls became open. It happened when the tide rose during a storm and can happen. I heard water coming in, but usually have a bilge that pumps the water out. The electricity went out and when I woke up, the boat was already halfway in the water.
We ended up rising the boat with 20 tubes to float the boat after it sunk to the bottom of the ocean. A friend had dove down with scuba gear to tie the flotation devices deflated onto all sides of the boat and we inflated them with an oxygen tank. Next a tarp underneath the boat as it floats because this actually stops water from going under even when in water itself. The boat will be up eventually and slowly, but much is lost, and will be inoperable for the time being. No full coverage on this boat, only liability only as most boats like these can only take liability only.
Now working on assessing the damage, but in an emergency situation. I will be working overtime during the holidays and will not be taking any time off. I humbly ask my community if they could help me raise emergency funds to get me through the holidays with my boat.
Thank you!
