On the morning of June 17th, long time community organizer, S went to meet with immigration authorities to share her story of why she should receive asylum. She never left that meeting. Instead of receiving justice and protection in our country, she was instead detained and is now awaiting release at Delaney Hall.
S is a incredible person, who has organized domestic workers at the worker rights group New Labor for over a decade. She is a teacher, she has fought for the rights of domestic workers, she has built a community for all recently arrived peoples. She is a family members and a loved one to many.
We are fighting to make sure she is released IMMEDIATELY. There is no legal reason for S to be in Delaney. She is simply waiting for a judge to hear her case.
Fighting for justice is costly. We are looking at bills of upwards of $10,000 for her release.
