Between 3-3:30 AM, July 11th, I was woken up by the sounds of the crashing waves in my condo. I later learned the city’s pipe bursted causing 4-5 feet of water in my home.
Both my insurances as well as the Syndicat’s insurances have considered my home a “total loss” (perte totale) so now I have to rebuild everything from the ground up. My condo will be demolished and rebuilt since the flooring, the doors, the cabinets and the walls are damaged (black mold).
The first two weeks have been very chaotic. Between trips to salvage and document my things at the condo, looking for emergency shelter, restocking essentials (ex. toiletries, cleaning products, pantry) and coordinating insurances, on top of the grief of losing my home, I've been a little underwater with everything.
I just signed a lease so now I can start to rebuild.
With great reluctance, I'm asking for community support to help through this extrodinary time.
While I do have insurance, I don't have a lot of immediate liquidity. As someone who is self-employed and working with government paying clients, my income trickles in very slowly as I wade through beaucractic paperwork reclammations.
If you're in the capacity of giving - whether kind words of support, materially or financially, all are welcomed as my cat and I navigate these uncartered waters.
Thank you for all your compassion.
