Hello!
We are an informal group of Pediatrics Resident Physicians at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. Hospitals in the City are seeing hundreds of COVID-19 cases daily. Bellevue Hospital serves as the flagship for the entire New York City public hospital system, and the vast majority of our patients do not have health insurance or receive medicaid.
While many outpatient clinics have been shuttered during this crisis, new parents with their babies, as well as some chronically ill pediatric patients, still need to come in to the hospital for essential check ups and care.
Patients and families have started to come in for checks up malnourished or without having eaten in days because the unemployment crisis caused by COVID-19. We have even seen families unable to buy formula due to lack of WIC supplies at stores.
We can't stand by and watch our patients and their families starve during this crisis. We are fundraising to give food and small emergency cash grants ASAP to Bellevue Hospital pediatric patient families struggling to feed themselves and their children during this crisis. This would allow needy families to not leave empty handed from appointments.
The funding goal would allow us to give $100 to each family that comes in for a necessary check up for their baby or chronically ill child in the next month. This can serve as a stopgap funding source for families struggling to feed themselves during the COVID-19 crisis in NYC.
All funds raised will go directly towards alleviating food insecurity in pediatric families from Bellevue Hospital, or towards providing them with certain essential items, such as diapers or formula. We will be working with the Children of Bellevue, the official pediatrics charity at Bellevue Hospital, in order to further these aims.
We know this is an incredibly difficult time, and so we are so grateful for your support to make sure that no baby or child in New York goes hungry during this crisis.
