Hello,
My name is Matthew Ip and I am hoping to start up a fundraiser for our dearest dog, Mochi. My girlfriend and I have raised Mochi for about a year and a half. Mochi has brought so much joy to all of our lives from the very first day we have met him.
He is energetic, affectionate, and FULL of love (he even knows the command to "Kiss") - and today we've encountered a very unfortunate event.
Today around 6am (on Boxing Day) my girlfriend woke up to vomit on her side of the bed. Mochi vomited and started peeing/pooing uncontrollably - while jolting as well (signs of a seizure). He went through a series of seizures within minutes, and so we immediately took him to the emergency pet hospital. The anti-seizure drug was unable to help stop him from his seizure episodes and so the doctor had to sedate him with the help of intubation. He is currently in the ICU, the hospital is watching him 24/7 and providing treatments as needed.
After moments from being admitted to the emergency pet hospital, we were told that the bills would add up to roughly $10,000+ for MRI scan along with keeping him in the hospital for 48-72 hours. The procedure is going to be very expensive, but it is our only choice. What ever you can do to help our one and half year old baby dog will be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE ~ 8:00 pm on Boxing Day: Mochi has gone through a couple treatments and is currently heavily sedated. The doctor had advised that there are still some signs of potential seizure episodes while he's sedated. Praying for one of the anti seizure drugs to work successfully.
Update ~ Day 2: Mochi’s seizure seems to have subsided. However, he’s experiencing low blood pressure, low oxygen levels and low blood sugar. And the worst is that his lungs happen to have an infection (left lung looks good, not the right) due to the possibility of vomiting during seizure. Doctor recommended to upgrade to high-flow oxygen. Going to take at least few more days to improve. Quote has been readjusted to $15,000 - $20,000 due to the extended hospital stay needed along with MRI + CT + CSF.
Final Update - Dec 28th Rest in Paradise <3
Mochi's conditions were worsening, and the doctor offered us the opportunity to visit him at the hospital. We visited him in the afternoon and told him how much we love him and will support him all the way. Due to the hospital's holiday hours limiting MRI availability, Mochi was only able to get the MRI done this day - but his conditions had significantly got worsen. We (only recently) learned that MRI was our only chance to further investigate the underlying cause (wish the doctor educated us on this - we had to consult a family member who's a doctor to find this out). And so although we were upset that MRI couldn't have been done sooner (while Mochi was in better conditions) - we still wanted to give it a try. Within couple hours after we left the hospital after visiting Mochi, before the neurologist was even available to assist with an MRI, we received the call that Mochi's heart stopped and that he was not responding to CPR. We do not want to see him in pain, and decided to let go. It almost felt like he waited for us to visit him at the hospital one last time...
We will love you forever, Mochi bear.
