         My  Andreina Quintero. I am Venezuelan, but I am currently living in Richmond, VA. These funds are for my Aunt, Iris Quintero, who lives in Venezuela. Additionally, These funds are for buying the Endoprosthesis Viatorr and the set of TIPS that my Aunt needs for surgery, and that we can not find in Venezuela. Once the goal is achieved, I will be withdrawing the funds for my aunt to my personal bank account here in the USA,  and then, I will be sending her a check by mail.

      God bless everyone who sees this. I am asking with all my heart, help, for my Aunt Iris Quintero. This is her story about when she was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis and ­Esophageal Varices with repeated bleeding in 2017.

       My name is Iris Mercedes Quintero Chuecos, I am 58 years old, born in Merida – Venezuela and currently living in Acarigua – Venezuela. I graduated from Los Andes University in Venezuela obtaining my bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Also, I am raising my daughter, Diana Mirela Quintero, who is 18 years old. Diana is currently a Psychologist student and is paying her tuition with the help of her aunt Mireya and her cousin Andreina since I have lost the privilege to work anymore. 


        Regarding to my medical condition, I started having health issues on 02/14/2017. I went to Santa Maria Hospital in Acarigua due to a VARICEAL UPPER GASTROINTESTINAL BLEEDING. For this reason, I had to be hospitalized to get my vital signs back to normal pace as well as for my body to function well. In addition, I received a blood transfusion and the medical staff there made me lab tests and an endoscopy. Doctor, Francisco Chacon, notified me about the results in which came to determination that I was suffering of ESOPHAGEAL VARICES. Due to these results, I was transferred to the Razetti Hospital in Barquisimeto – Venezuela to perform a deeper resonance, but there was no reasoning obtained of the bleeding. Therefore, I was referred to Caracas (the capital of Venezuela) to see Dr. Dervis Bandres, who works in the Gastroenterology Department at the Trinidad Medical Center to make me an Eco-Endoscopy, Gastroscopy, and an Esophageal Varice Ligature. After all those evaluations, I was hospitalized and put under medical observation, being released at the end of the day. However, two days after, I presented another gastrointestinal bleeding along with convulsions and decompensations. Due to this, I was hospitalized at the Trinidad Medical Center again.

        On the other hand, the medical treatment that I must take is for an indefinite period and is very expensive for me and my family to get because the majority of the medicines are from other countries. The medicines include the Somastin (3 mg) Injection (indispensable when a bleeding occurs), the Ursacol tablets 300 mg (Ursodeoxycholic Acid) and the Lactulose Syrup (oral solution), known in Venezuela as Moderan-Lactulose syrup 10.1 g / 15 ml or as Lactulax-Lactulose 66.7 g/100ml.  It is important for me to notify, the reader, that we are a family that DOES NOT have the immediate economic resources to cover the cost of all these medicines. What we have bought so far has been through loans and family collaborations. After a month, I was evaluated again by another specialist, Dr. Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist Miguel Garassini, to make a second ESOPHAGEAL VARICE LIGATURE. It all resulted into being hospitalized again from 4/26/2017 until 4/30/2017. This situation created more expenses and worries because my life depended on this surgery.

         Three days after the surgery (5/3/2018), I started showing fading symptoms, dehydration, physical decay, abdominal pain and dark evacuations, which lead me to go to the emergency room. After 75 hours of trying to stabilize my hemoglobin to 7, the doctor made me another endoscopy, finding out that I had a punctured varix resulting into droplets of blood coming out again. The chronic issue made us to overtake the ligation that was scheduled to be done in one month.

        Once I was released from the Trinidad Medical Center, I went back to Acarigua – Venezuela and I was referred by D. Garassini to the see Dr. Ana Maria D’ammassa, who is a Hepatologist-gastroenterologist specialist in Barquisimeto. Even though, I was following all the medical indications given to me, I had another severe hemorrhage again. Due to this hemorrhage, I was moved to the hospital, Policlinica Barquisimeto, located in Barquisimeto-Venezuela, specifically to the Medical Institute of Gastroenterology Espiritu Santo LLC. Because of my condition, the results obtained on the Superior Digestive Endoscopy Study and the hemorrhage, I was moved to the ICU. In addition, since I had had several blood transfusions and 5 hemorrhages with a hemoglobin level of 6 in a short period of time, Dr. D’ammassa decided to talk to my family and notified them how serious my disease was. She had done this because she wanted to explain to my family that most of the times it is impossible to stop these types of hemorrhages. As a result, Dr. D’ammassa indicated the emergency and need of an additional medical procedure to improve my style of life and prevent the risk of having more hemorrhages, which could not be stopped with ligatures. This medical procedure is called Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt TIPS and is done by Dr. Carlos Calderas, who is a medical interventional cardiologist at the San Román Urological Institute, in Caracas – Venezuela. I was referred to him and during the appointment he explained to me everything about the medical procedure that I needed including its risks and its medical resources that it comes with.­ The Dr. also mentioned to me the cost of the Endoprosthesis Viatorr and the set of TIPS that were going to be needed during the surgery in which resulted in being $10,300 without including the cost of the surgery and the medical fees.


           Within all these medical diagnosis (ESOPHAGEAL VARICES and PORTAL HYPERTENSION), I had to resign my job since my condition is at high risk. Therefore, I am under the care of my family. Additionally, because of the situation in my country, Venezuela, it is impossible to get the ENDOPROSTHESIS and the set of TIPS that I need for my surgery in which is fundamental to improve my health.

           Thank God, my family and friends, who have been supporting me all the time. I have been waiting to do this medical procedure, TIPS, with urgency and my life is depending on it. My life is in risk, and if I don’t receive the medical intervention that I need, I can die.

          Whoever is reading this right now, please help me to afford this medical equipment. I am desperate because I want to live. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help save my LIFE. Hola a todos.

     Dios bendiga a todos aquellos que ven esto que estoy pidiendo con todo mi corazón para mi tia Iris Quintero. Esta es su historia acerca de lo que se le fue diagnosticado en el 2017.
 
      Mi nombre es Iris Mercedes Quintero Chuecos, tengo 58 años de edad, natural de Mérida – Venezuela, actualmente estoy residenciada en la Ciudad de Acarigua – Venezuela. De profesión Licenciada en Administración de Empresas, egresada de la Universidad de los Andes. Además tengo a mi cargo una hija de 18 años de edad, llamada Diana Mirela Quintero, quien es estudiante de Psicología en la actualidad y está pagando su carrera con la ayuda de su tia Mireya y su prima Andreina debido a que estoy indispuesta para trabajar.


       En relación al cuadro clínico de alto riesgo que empecé a presentar en fecha del 14/02/2017, fui atendida en la Clínica Santa María de Acarigua-Venezuela por presentar HEMORRAGIA DIGESTIVA SUPERIOR VARICEAL. Como resultado de esto, tuve que ser hospitalizada para compensar mis signos vitales. En adición, se me hizo una transfusión de sangre, así como exámenes de laboratorio y una endoscopia. Una vez realizada la endoscopia por el médico tratante, el Gastroenterólogo Dr. Francisco Chacón, el resultado fue que estaba sufriendo de VARICES ESOFAGICAS. Por este motivo, fui remitida a la Clínica Razetti en Barquisimeto para realizar estudio de COLECISTOCOLANGIORESONANCIA, sin obtener resultados claros sobre la procedencia de la hemorragia. Debido a esto, fui luego referida a Caracas-Venezuela al médico Gastroenterólogo e Imagenologo Dr. Dervis Bandrés, quien asiste en su unidad de Gastroenterología ubicada en el Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad para realizarme una ECO-ENDOSCOPIA, GASTROSCOPIA, y una LIGADURA DE VARICES ESOFAGICAS.  Estos estudios fueron realizados el 24/04/2017, permaneciendo todo el día hospitalizada para observación médica post-ligadura, egresando al final del día. El miércoles 26/04/2017, nuevamente presento otra hemorragia digestiva, acompañada de convulsiones y descompensación lo cual urgió hospitalización nuevamente en el Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad.
 

      Por otra parte, debo seguir un tratamiento médico indefinido, el cual es costoso para mí y mi familia de obtener, ya que se requiere entre todos los medicamentos algunos procedentes de otros países específicamente la ampolla SOMASTIN de 3 mg (indispensable al momento de la hemorragia), las capsulas URSACOL de 300 mg (ACIDO URSODESOXICOLICO) y el jarabe MODERAN-LACTULOSA 10.1g/15ml (LACTULAX-LACTULOSA 66,7g/100ml). Cabe destacar que somos una familia que no posee los recursos económicos inmediatos para cubrir los gastos que hasta la presente fecha hemos cancelado por medio de aportes familiares y prestamos por particulares. En lapso de un mes según mi condición, fui evaluada nuevamente por el medico Hepatólogo-Gastroenterólogo Dr. Miguel Garassini para realizar una segunda ligadura de varices esofágicas, siendo hospitalizada desde el día 26/04/2017 hasta el 30/04/2017. Esa situación nos generó nuevos gastos médicos y preocupaciones ya que de esta ligadura dependía mi vida.

 
      Tres días después de la intervención, empecé a manifestar síntomas de desvanecimiento, deshidratación, decaimiento físico, evacuaciones oscuras y dolor abdominal, lo cual ameritó trasladarme de emergencia al Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad, donde posterior a las 72 horas de mi ingreso, el equipo médico intentaba aun controlar mi hemoglobina a un valor de 7. Después de esto, me realizan una endoscopia obteniendo un resultado de goteo (sangre) en varices esofágicas nuevamente, razón por la cual se amerito adelantar la ligadura pautada para un mes después. 


      Al ser dada de alta del Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad regreso a la ciudad de Acarigua Estado Portuguesa-Venezuela, donde fui referida por el Dr. Miguel Garassini, a la Dra. Ana María D’ammassa Hepatólogo-gastroenterólogo en Barquisimeto estado Lara- Venezuela y a pesar de que estuve siguiendo todas las indicaciones médicas dadas, de nuevo tuve otro episodio de HEMORRAGIA GRAVE.

 
       Esta vez fui trasladada a la Policlínica Barquisimeto-Edo. Lara-Venezuela específicamente a la unidad del Instituto Medico Docente de Gastroenterologia Espíritu Santo, C. A., pero por mis condiciones, según lo arrojado por el estudio de ENDOSCOPIA DIGESTIVA SUPERIOR y la hemorragia presente me ingresan a la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI). En adición a lo nombrado anteriormente y por haber recibido tantas transfusiones de sangre y presentado cinco (5) hemorragias con hemoglobina en 6 en tan corto tiempo, la Dra. Ana María D’ammassa decide hablar con mis familiares sobre de lo delicado de mi enfermedad, pues muchas veces es imposible detener dichas hemorragias por su ubicación dentro del organismo. Como resultado de lo expresado anteriormente, la Dra. nos indico la necesidad de un procedimiento para mejorar la calidad de mi vida y no correr riesgos de otras hemorragias y no poderlas detener ni con ligadura. Este procedimiento lleva por nombre TIPS HEPATICO y lo realiza solo el Dr. Carlos Calderas, quien es medico Cardiólogo Intervencionista en el Urológico San Román –Caracas - Venezuela.   Por lo que inmediatamente le pedimos a la Dra. D’ammasa me refiriera a este doctor. Una vez en la consulta médica, el Dr. Calderas nos indicó como sería el procedimiento, riesgos y material a utilizar, así como el costo de la endoprótesis marca Viatorr y el set de TIPS que iban a ser necesarios durante la cirugia, que según la cotización N°1471 tienen un valor en dólares de $ 10.300, costo que no incluye el valor de la intervención quirúrgica y los honorarios médicos.

     Por razones del mismo diagnóstico de VARICES ESOFAGICAS E HIPERTENSION PORTAL, me he visto en la necesidad de renunciar a mi trabajo por el alto riesgo que la enfermedad. Por lo tanto, estoy bajo el cuidado de mis familiares. Adicionalmente, por la situación que atraviesa mi país, Venezuela, se nos hace imposible adquirir la endoprótesis que necesito para mi intervención, la cual es fundamental para mejorar mi salud.


     Gracias a Dios Todopoderoso y a la Santísima Virgen María que en todo momento han estado conmigo, a mis familiares y amistades que me han apoyado incondicionalmente, es que me encuentro hoy estable, en espera de que me puedan realizar este procedimiento de TIPS HEPATICO. Pero necesito de tu ayuda, estoy desesperada y cualquier aporte, por pequeño que sea ayudara a salvar mi VIDA. Dios les pague de antemano, les llene de Bendiciones, vida, salud y espero en ustedes la bondad de ayudarme a recolectar lo que su generosidad pueda donarme.
