Emergency emigration costs
I'm Misty, a transgender woman living in the US who has the good fortune of having become an Irish citizen by descent recently - therefore I'm now a dual national. I started the process of becoming an Irish citizen in 2016 when Donald Trump won the Republican primary, and just in the past few weeks I finally gained legal status as an Irish citizen; my Irish passport is on its way.
As many are aware, life as a transgender person in the United States has become a lot tougher and scarier since Trump/Pence have come to power, and it's only getting worse, which is why I've spent the last two years planning my emigration and racing the clock to get out. I'm almost there. Ireland today is a progressive modern European country, and a safe place for people like me.
Unfortunately, on 2 July 2018, the stress got the better of me, and I was psych hospitalized for eight days with paralyzing anxiety and PTSD. Because I work for a small employer, I am not protected under federal or state Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) law, so while my doctor has not yet medically cleared me to return to work, my employer is about to let me go for absenteeism.
I am searching for help with costs for my emigration to a safe country, so that I do not end up stranded with no income in an America that is becoming increasingly hostile to transgender people, and scientists, such as myself. My psych disability is temporary, and I should be cleared to return to work in a matter of a few weeks, but when I am, my job will no longer be waiting for me.
I am a professional environmental scientist, and I want to spend the rest of my life in Ireland working in that capacity, promoting socialism, feminism, and environmental responsibility in the land of my ancestors.
