Emergency Education Relief

According to UNOCHA , the country of Sudan now has the highest number of internally displaced people globally.
With the severe hardship in education amongst the war in Sudan, UNICEF reports that as of October 9th, 2023, 19 million children are now out of school. That is 1 in 3 kids with their generation lost to war.
"Even before the conflict erupted in April, nearly 7 million children were already out of school in a country grappling with poverty and instability. If the war continues, no child in Sudan will be able to go back to school in the coming months, leaving them exposed to immediate and long-term dangers, including displacement, recruitment by armed groups and sexual violence."
In this fundraiser I am collecting funds to support displaced Sudanese children with books and school supplies. We will be directly be working with schools sponsored by the nonprofit organization, Sudan Education Supporting Organization (SEDSO). You can visit SEDSO's website here and check out the incredible work they've done through generous donations to rebuild schools, provide resources, and give teachers the training they need.
The funds raised will specifically go towards schools based in Cairo, Egypt and Port Sudan, Sudan where hundreds of thousands of Sudanese families have relocated to flee from the ongoing war. I will be traveling to Egypt mid-December to purchase the Arabic/English children's books and school supplies provided by this fundraiser with the help of a member from the SEDSO non-profit organization. With the help of SEDSO members for dispersal, I will deliver these resources to schools in Egypt and I will ship the resources to Port Sudan.
About Me:
My name is Douha Abbasher and I am a 26-year old Sudanese-American student based in Texas. I'm acquiring my MA in Multilingual and Multicultural Studies and working as a Graduate Research Associate. This experience, in addition to my two years as a classroom teacher, and fundraising experience at my local Sudanese community with Sudan Diaspora Network, has prepared me for the gathering of contributions and age-appropriate resources to support displaced Sudanese children with culturally sustaining pedagogies.
Because I am a Sudanese woman myself, I believe that I am in the unique position to be able to do this work with the support of your generous donations and sharing of this information.
Students deserve access to quality education, and we have a responsibility to act. Please donate today.
