Petey is a senior rescue cat who has lived with FIV for many years, thus stomatitis has recently attacked/developed with Pete causing pain to the point where he’s no longer eating well. With our household still reeling from a catastrophic water system failure, we urgently need help to get Petey the dental surgery and medical care he needs before his condition becomes critical.
Stomatitis is a painful inflammatory condition of the mouth that is especially severe and common in FIV-positive cats. As it progresses, every bite becomes painful. Eating hurts. Swallowing hurts. Even grooming can hurt.
Petey has reached the point where medical management is no longer enough.
The standard, evidence-based treatment for FIV-positive cats with advanced stomatitis is a full-mouth tooth extraction, leaving only the canines. This procedure is not optional comfort care — it is the treatment that gives cats real relief and the ability to eat again.
Because Petey is now eating poorly, time matters. Waiting risks weight loss, weakness, liver complications, and a rapid downward spiral.
What Petey Needs Medically
Before surgery, Petey must have a complete medical workup to keep him safe under anesthesia:
$65 — Exam
$46 — Fecal test
$320 — Full comprehensive bloodwork
Once cleared, he will need:
$1,200 — Full-mouth dental extraction (except canines)
This is the standard treatment for FIV-related stomatitis and offers the best chance for long-term relief.
With anesthesia, pain control, antibiotics, and follow-up care, the total cost quickly reaches around $2,000.
Why We’re Asking for Help Now
Under normal circumstances, we would find a way to cover this.
But we are still recovering from a catastrophic water system failure that destroyed our cabinets and flooring and wiped out what little financial buffer we had left. That emergency has left us stretched to the absolute limit.
At the same time, we care for 22 rescue cats through Clowderville — many of them seniors or special-needs. When multiple emergencies hit at once, there is simply no margin left.
Petey’s decline is not something that can wait until things “settle down.” He needs help now, while he still has the strength to recover.
What Your Support Will Do
Your donation will help:
1. Get Petey fully evaluated and safely cleared for surgery
2. Pay for the dental extraction that will end his mouth pain
3. Allow him to eat comfortably again
4. Give a senior FIV-positive cat real quality of life instead of daily suffering
Cats like Petey can live many more good years after dental surgery. The relief can be dramatic — but only if we can get him there in time.
Amazon Registry
If you’d prefer to help by sending supplies, we also have an Amazon registry that supports Petey and the rest of the Clowderville cats:
Every bag of food, every cleaning supply, every cage or medical item helps stretch limited resources further.
Thank You for Helping Petey
Petey didn’t choose FIV.
He didn’t choose stomatitis.
And he certainly didn’t choose to be in pain.
But with your help, we can choose to give him relief, dignity, and the chance to keep going.
Thank you for caring about a senior rescue cat when it matters most.
