Emergency Covid-19 Fund
Living with HIV can already make people feel isolated and anxious about their health. Coronavirus means that now more than ever we need to ensure that vital support remains.
At Brigstowe we have been supporting people in Bristol living with HIV for the last 24 years. In the last month we have seen the number of calls we are receiving from worried clients almost double whilst the amount of support being asked for by our community is unprecedented – particularly from those without access to technology and those seeking asylum who have no access to public funding.
Which is why we need your help.
You can help to support some of the most disproportionally affected. Please make a donation to our Crowd Funder appeal today
£10 can pay for enough mobile data for 1 migrant client to video call their support worker for 1 month
We want to raise at least £3,000 for an Emergency Coronavirus Fund which will allow us to:
· Make hardship payments so that the clients in greatest need have enough money to access medication and food
· Support those worried about going in to work but who haven’t disclosed their status to their employer
· Help destitute clients access the right technology to speak to their support worker or to home school their children
· Enable regular wellbeing check-ins with those who need them most
HIV does not go away whilst Coronavirus exists
Anything raised over our target will enable us to keep raising awareness and dispelling stigma through online platforms. This work would usually be funded through community based events which are no longer taking place.
Your gift will make a tangible and real difference to the lives of some very special people.
“Universal Credit is severely overwhelmed and consistently experiencing unmanageable queues. The system can be very difficult to negotiate and many people just cannot deal with this anxiety. Without our support this can have a direct impact on their mental health which can affect their ability to support the children in their household. This alongside having no money for food, rent, and bills or to go and collect their life-saving HIV medication.” - Jodie, Senior Advice and Support Worker
Brigstowe is a Charity providing support to those living with or affected by HIV. We support people living in Bristol and the surrounding areas and have done so for the last 24 years.
We do understand that many people have been affected financially by this crisis. If you cannot give but do want to support our work then please do share this via your email networks and social media.
