Emergency Care for Percival

Donation protected
Percy is an exceptionally special cat. He has been with me for nearly 13 years, after starting his life as a stray in Montreal. In his time with me, we have lived in four different cities across two countries. His favourite hobbies are napping on my desk, getting ear rubs, watching Cat TV out the window, going on hiking adventures, and charming everyone he meets.

This past weekend, on July 30, Percy suddenly stopped eating his wet food. The following day, he was reluctant even to eat his dry food, and by Monday, he had to be coaxed into eating only a couple treats. On Tuesday, August 2, I took him to the vet, where they performed bloodwork which showed very elevated liver enzymes (ALT, or alanine aminotransferase), which would require admission for intravenous fluid therapy (IVFT). Upon admission, however, he was discovered to be jaundiced and his liver in failure, and his veterinarian said it would likely take more than a day of treatment to diagnose and treat him. After a discussion with his veterinarian, I decided to transfer him to the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario, where he has access to the best possible diagnosis and treatment options.

Percy is now stable and resting comfortably at OVC, where they will perform additional tests to determine the cause of his liver troubles, and an appropriate course of action. The goal is to get him happy and comfortable.

So far, his bill has consisted of $733.88 CDN at his local vet for Tuesday's bloodwork and Wednesday's initial treatment, plus a $3000 CDN deposit with OVC, plus up to another $3000 CDN currently estimated for his continued care at OVC. Additional treatment/follow-ups are not yet known.

Initial bills are included below, and all additional bills will be posted to this page.

Local vet bill with total highlighted (personal identifying information redacted): $733.88 CDN ($571.18 USD)

OVC intake bill, deposit and total estimate highlighted (personal identifying information redacted): $3000 CDN deposit plus up to another $3000 CDN ($2334.90 USD each)

Since we are still in the diagnosis stage, I do not yet have a final cost for his treatment and any follow-up that might be required. The starting goal is $7000 CDN ($5448.10 USD), and I will update this number as I know more about his diagnosis and associated costs.

Any and every donation to help Percy get better is greatly appreciated. Percy's vets have all remarked on how friendly and sweet he is, despite feeling unwell.
