Emergency care for our Cujo

Donation protected
Our beloved family pet dog, Cujo had a terrible incident yesterday.  He has suffered a serious case of heat stroke. He left his kennel, which has exhaust fans and intake fans, along with an industrial fan that’s bringing in cool air. He ended up laying down on a side of the shed that with yesterday’s very hot day in the 30’s, had pretty much become a sauna. He is very well trained and has never done this before.  Our other dog Luna who has a separate kennel in the same room had remained in the cool area because she is still a puppy and her kennel is locked, she was perfectly fine because that area was very cool. Cujo was found unresponsive on the floor in the shed barely clinging to life. I carried him out and began to cool him down with cool water. After we got his temperature down he had started drinking water and seemed like he was going to be okay. He got up on his own after sometime and was walking and drinking water. I kept a very close eye on him overnight and made sure he was drinking water. In the morning he seemed fine. He was waliking around on his own and seemed to be recovering. I called my vet first thing and he had told me to monitor him for the next 24 hours and if anything changed to bring him in. Throughout the day I had him inside with me and he was doing well, although he had no appetite, which was to be expected. Then things drastically changed for the worse. He vomited up what seemed to be a bucket full of water. He went to lay down by the door and was unable to move after that. He was breathing very heavy and his heart beat was very fast. I quickly carried him to the car and rushed him to the nearest emergency vet, VEC Animal hospital in Toronto. They quickly took him into the room and started the process of administering IV and fluids. His temperature was still very high. As I waited for them to tell me what was going on the vet took me in a room and started to explain the costs associated with saving my best friends life. I was told they needed a deposit of $5700 dollars or they would not be treating my dog. They told me the only other option I had was euthanasia. I pleaded with them to please care for my pet and I will come up with the money tomorrow. They finally agreed. I was also told that if I did not pay them tomorrow they would stop all care immediately. I have no options and I myself cannot pay the money. We do not want to lose our family member. Before we left the hospital his temperature was normal and his heartbeat was back to normal. He is a fighter and I know in my heart he will pull through. But without the necessary medical care he will not. I shoulder the blame for the incident because I probably should have locked his kennel and not allowed him to move freely in that extreme heat. But he has never done that before and likes to sit infront the fan. I can’t tell you exactly why he left the area because I honestly don’t know. I can’t blame him, I alone am to blame. Please we do not want to lose him, anything to help, no matter how small.
